Alexxi Interview

Erotes is pleased to welcome our very first guest, Alexxi, a house producer from San Diego, California. His song “No More”, released by the record label Selected, has received over 1 Million plays on streaming platforms so far. Building on that success, his most recent track “Voices”, just came out last month.

A quick jump to Alexxi’s Spotify page here.

Erotes: Alexxi, thanks for coming on Erotes. How did you get started with music — what is your backstory?

Alexxi: A friend of mine introduced me to music production back in 2012. He would come to class with his laptop and in that laptop he would use FL Studio. I started playing around with it as soon as I got home that day and fell in love. We formed a group named Maison Cartel while still in high school and made trap music.

In 2013, while still in high school, we were invited to perform at Dim Mak studios in LA for an event named “Dim Mak + Buygore Present: Turn Up!”. Long story short, upon graduating high school we decided to split because we would all go to different universities and we wouldn’t be in the same city anymore. Since then, I’ve been making music under the radar as a ghost producer. But this year I decided to release some music of my own.

Erotes: You’ve made a big impact early in your career already. Who have been your musical inspirations?

Alexxi: Definitely Ben Bohmer, Lane 8 and Rufus Du Sol. Those are my favorite artists at the moment and I really look up to them.

Erotes: What does your musical process look like? Some producers start with building chords, or a melody — what do you do?

Alexxi: Usually I first start writing the main chord progression and from there I start building the main “drop”.

Erotes: What is the most fun and challenging aspect of being a producer?

Alexxi: Definitely the most fun is trying new sounds and styles. The most challenging would be to stick to one sound. As an artist you need to find your sound and stick to it to build a fanbase. But I love making all sorts of styles so it’s very challenging.

Erotes: Who is someone you have really enjoyed working with?

Alexxi: My friend Manny who introduced me to music production and Ivan who was part of Maison Cartel too. I miss hanging out at his house after school and making music.

Erotes: Last question, what are your plans for the future?

Alexxi: Definitely play some live events. I would love to start off my career playing at CRSSD Fest here in my city San Diego, CA.

Erotes: We would love to see that. Alexxi, that wraps it up with the interview — thanks again for joining us and to the readers for tuning in. To keep up to date, you can find Alexxi on Instagram and Facebook.
