DVNB

Erotes sat down with DVNB, a house producer and songwriter from the North West UK. He debuted his first song “Cos Of You” in 2021 and his music has already amassed over a million listens across streaming platforms. Most recently, he released his song “Not the Same” together with Munch and ENLIV3N — and it’s a song we love!

A quick jump to his Spotify here.

Erotes: DVNB, thanks for joining us today. How are you?

DVNB: I’m great, I hope you’re well too!

Erotes: Thank you. First, tell us about your song “Easy”, which marks a bit of a different musical style for you.

DVNB: “Easy” is the start of a new shift in the direction in which I want to take my music. In the past few years I have slowly fallen in love with the modern deep house sound, with a more emotional and less commercial approach to house music and a more creative one. This track is important to me because it sets the slate for my future releases which will be in a similar style.

Erotes: You already have several popular songs under your belt — “I Need Your Love”, “How Long”, “First Love”, among others. And just last week you released “Not the Same”. Did you ever think your music would take off the way it did?

DVNB: I didn’t expect my first few releases to do as well as what they did. In the back of my mind I always hoped that I’d get to a stage with my music where it’d get hundreds of thousands of streams but after seeing my second track receive the amount of support it did, it really blew me away.

Erotes: How did you get started with music?

DVNB: I have always been very interested in music and have always liked house music and EDM, however I didn’t dive into producing up until recently. When I was around 17 I had a friend who’d been producing for a few years, and it looked really fun so I decided to download FL Studio and watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube to help me learn the software. Ever since then I’ve been enjoying producing.

Erotes: Who are some of your musical influences?

Matvey Emerson: I have a lot of influences for my music and it’s always changing but currently some of my top inspirations are: MK, Tchami, Regard & AVAION.

Erotes: Great choices! What does your process look like when producing a song?

DVNB: Personally I like to get the vibe of the drop down before anything else. I’ll start by making a main lead melody or bassline, build all of the main elements from there like drums, effects etc. and then I send it to a singer that I think would suit the track really well!

Erotes: What to you is the most fun and challenging aspect of music production?

DVNB: The most fun and challenging aspect of production to me is probably coming up with a catchy melody or finding that perfect sound to carry the song. It’s very difficult but once I find something that works really well it’s the best feeling.

Erotes: How about your collaborations with other artists – can you tell us a little bit about that?

DVNB: I love to collaborate with people who have a style that I like, it’s a good opportunity to combine two different styles and visions and learn something from each other. Two pairs of ears is always better than one, and I always love hearing what I can make with other like-minded producers.

Erotes:  Who is an artist you would particularly love to work with, either a singer or another producer?

DVNB: A producer I’d love to work with is Nu Aspect and a vocalist I’d love to work with is Au/Ra.

Erotes: We would love to see that happen. What about your plans for the future?

DVNB: I plan to keep producing the type of music that I love to listen to and have the most fun making. That could change, but it could also stay the same in the future, only time will tell. I’m definitely going to keep working on my craft and focus on improving and shaping a sound that is distinct and recognisable yet easy to listen to. I may also try and step into the world of DJing at some point, but for now my main focus is definitely on production.

Erotes: Any piece of advice for aspiring musicians?

DVNB: It’s easy to get lost in other people’s standards and achievements. Try to set achievable goals for yourself and once you reach them set new ones, instead of setting goals at the standard of some of the biggest producers/DJs. Also collabs and making friends will make it way more fun, so find like-minded people who have the same interests as you.

Erotes: Thank you DVNB for taking the time to sit down with us, and for the wise words of advice! We look forward to listening to more of your releases in the future. For more on DVNB, you can follow him on his Instagram.
