Dutch DJ and producer Luxe Agoris has made waves with hit songs “End of Nights”, “Out of My Mind” and “Whatever You Like”, and has recently released the instantly-catchy tune “Leave You Behind”. He’s here today for an exclusive interview with Erotes.
A quick jump to his Spotify here.
Erotes: Luxe Agoris, thanks for being here.
Luxe Agoris: Thanks for having me!
Erotes: You’re 20 years old and already have several great songs under your belt, as well as remixes. How did your musical journey begin?
Luxe Agoris: It all started when we got a piano in our home. I didn’t know what to do with it but I just started playing around! Haha. My sister always got annoyed because I used to practice stuff all night long, and that’s when the midi keyboard came! I got that one from my dad, and it included Ableton Live Lite. I remember remaking Catch & Release (Deepend Remix) and me and my dad jammed to it every day! After a few months I noticed that a guy from my middle school also made music, and he used FL studio. That inspired me to switch DAWs and work on new music with more options etc. About 1 or 2 years later my teacher told me about the Herman Brood Academie in the Netherlands. I was so excited about it and did everything I could for them to accept me. The rest is history!
Erotes: “Out of My Mind” and “End of Nights” have garnered millions of listens across streaming platforms. How do you feel about the response your music has received?
Luxe Agoris: I’m so glad to see that people actually listen to my songs! It feels weird but amazing. Most of the time I just check out the numbers like people check out their Instagram feed or whatever, but sometimes you realize that actually 300 people are listening at the same time and that is crazy! It really helps at times where I feel down.
Erotes: Was there a moment in time where you felt your music started to take off?
Luxe Agoris: I remember that I got an opportunity to send my demo to ChillYourMind. I just did what I could and sent them Out of My Mind (OOMM), and they actually liked it! It needed a few changes but not that much. Ever since I released OOMM and also a few tunes before that one I realized that so many people were messaging me and listening to all of my music!
Erotes: You’ve also collaborated with some great artists. Who is someone you have really enjoyed working with?
Luxe Agoris: Every collab has been great to work on! There isn’t one person that I liked “best” but I always have a lot of fun working with Nicholas Roberts and imallryt. Especially You and I with Nicholas was so cool to work on, I love that song! And there will be 2 tunes coming out this month together with imallryt 🤫
Erotes: What about an artist who you would like a chance to work with in the future?
Luxe Agoris: I actually never thought about this, but if I would have to choose I’d say Martin Garrix. He seems like a really sweet guy with so much energy and discipline! I think I can learn a lot from his way of thinking.
Erotes: How did you find your musical style and who have been your inspirations?
Luxe Agoris: I used to make progressive house but my school teachers at the Herman Brood Academie told me that the genre was “dead”. They literally told me that at my audition haha! Now I produce a lot of chill tunes because it also eases my mind. I’m not sure what inspires me, maybe it’s the reason that I actually NEVER listen to electronic music! I love country, pop punk, indie and hardrock.
Erotes: Each producer has a different process to putting together a song. How do you usually get started, and what does that process look like for you?
Luxe Agoris: Every song is different! Sometimes I have towlines from vocalists, and other times I hear something in a song that I love, or I just have something in my head. The most important parts of a song for me are the drums and the bass, because if those 2 elements sound good, everything on top of that will fit! No matter what.
Erotes: How do you go about creating your remixes — for example your great remix of “How Deep Is Your Love” by Calvin Harris?
Luxe Agoris: I am kind of musical when it comes to hearing things and specific keys. (I don’t have perfect pitch but I think it’s called relative pitch). So sometimes when I’m working on music I just hear the vocal of a tune in
my head and instantly know if it could fit or not. That really helps with remixing songs!
Erotes: Can you tell us a little about your plans for the future?
Luxe Agoris: At the moment I have signed a lot of singles! We’re also negotiating with a huge label but I don’t think I can talk about that too much right now. The most important thing is to make others and especially myself happy. If I can’t make myself happy with what I do, I can’t make anyone happy.
Erotes: Last question – any words of advice for aspiring producers?
Luxe Agoris: Yes! It’s easy. Do what you love! (The next one is important because everybody says this but a lot of people don’t actually apply it in their lives): Don’t care about what others say. It doesn’t matter if it’s about music, your outfits, your whatever! But that doesn’t mean that you should not “give a shit”. Be respectful to others and know what you’re worth. Also, be realistic! Everyone has dreams and you should never give up on them. But there are also other ways to get there, so some things might work for others but not for you. Just remember that this is not a problem at all! One last thing, I hear a lot of people flex about the fact that they don’t know any music theory. First things first never flex with anything like this! Haha. And secondly, it does NOT kill your creativity at all. I know a lot of people say this, but it helps you so much! I wish you all the best.
Erotes: Luxe Agoris, thanks very much – it’s been a pleasure having you on and we look forward to hearing what new songs you have in store for us! For more on Luxe Agoris, you can follow him on his Instagram.
