Erotes sat down for a quick interview with the prolific producer, songwriter and DJ, Matvey Emerson. Matvey, who hails from from Moscow, has produced such hits as “Heal My Love”, “Never Leave You” and “Say My Name”.
A quick jump to his Spotify here.
Erotes: Matvey, glad you could join us!
Matvey Emerson: Thank you!
Erotes: You’ve had several hit singles in 2021, including “Diamonds”, “Simple Clue”, and “Heal My Love” (the last one has been playing on repeat here!). But how did you get started with music? Take us back to the beginning.
Matvey Emerson: I started writing songs when I was 16 or so. I was looking for someone who could help me with producing, but there was no one in my hometown who was able to help me, so I decided to make it by myself. I then downloaded FL Studio and started to learn production.
Erotes: Was there a single moment when you felt your music really started to take off?
Matvey Emerson: When I signed my cover track “Show Me Love” to Atlantic in 2015 and got some publications on Billboard and MTV.
Erotes: What does your process look like for creating a song? How do you usually start?
Matvey Emerson: It always starts with a chord progression or a hook melody that is on my mind. Then I look for some vocals. I almost never use vocal samples, I try to make it original, so it helps me to stand out.
Erotes: Who have been your musical inspirations?
Matvey Emerson: Since I got into the EDM world there are a few names, but in particular Avicii and Swedish House Mafia (SHM).
Erotes: Aside from producing you are also a DJ. How does it feel to put yourself in front of a big crowd?
Matvey Emerson: It’s an amazing feeling to spin some new tracks and get a positive feedback from the crowd. Nothing compares to it.
Erotes: Can you tell us a little about your plans for the future?
Matvey Emerson: This year I’m going to release several new tracks and collaborate with the best singers and producers all over the world. Hopefully I will be back to my normal DJ routine in 2022. It would also be great to find life/work balance and spend more time with my friends.
Erotes: Last question – do you have any words of advice for aspiring producers?
Matvey Emerson: Do what you love and love what you do. If you feel passion for music, nothing can stop you. Believe in yourself.
Erotes: Thank you very much Matvey for having this quick sit down with us! We wish you a successful 2022 and look forward to listening to your new releases. For more on Matvey Emerson, you can follow him on his Instagram.
